Be a part of history and hike the start of the yet-to-be recognized (officially) Theodore Solomons Trail (TST), conceived and mapped in 1988. This uncrowded loop in Yosemite starts at Glacier Point, follows Illilouette Creek up to Merced Pass, then breaks away from the TST to swing around and join the Buena Vista Trail. The TST is a 245-mile trail that starts at Glacier Points and ends at Horseshoe Meadow, so this will give us just a taste.
Cost: $60 (contact Inga for discount if low income). Covers permit, backpacker's campsite the night before the trip, donation to backpacking section (entry fee into YNP NOT included). The permit allows for one night at a backpackers camp after the trip, but this fee is not included in the cost. No refunds for cancellations less than 30 days from start date of trip.
Signup Instructions: Registration is open; confirmations will be sent out in late May. When you RSVP, you're indicating interest; this does not mean you are confirmed. You will be confirmed after completing a screening process. Contact Inga Aksamit with questions. Payment in advance is required. A detailed trip description will be provided to confirmed participants.
Bring: Backpacking gear, Yosemite approved bear-resistant canister and all of your food (individual commissary). A suggested gear list will be provided upon confirmation. Bring clothing for a variety of conditions, including cool or rainy weather.
Signup Restrictions: Participants must complete a screening form before their participation is confirmed. All participants must read and sign the Sierra Club liability waiver a minimum of a week before the trip.
Additional Directions: Limited to 8 participants.
Carpool: We recommend carpooling but we do not organize carpools. Participants may self-organize after the leader shares participant contact information.
Note: Carpool transportation is at the sole risk of the participants.
Cancellation Policy: Activity is held rain or shine, but may be altered due to inclement weather
