The supplemental funding bill for disaster relief must help Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico recovery

Donald Trump's administration just released a supplemental aid package to assist Americans recovering from 2017's disastrous hurricane season that is outrageously unjust. The proposed supplemental package:

  • Offers only a fraction of the funds needed for storm-struck Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands,
  • Proposes $2 billion in funds for Trump's border wall and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),
  • And plans to offset the cost by cutting domestic programs, including slashing nearly $5 billion from the Department of Energy, $250 million from the Environmental Protection Agency, and nearly $4 billion from the Department of Education.

This funding package cannot go forward. Tell Congress that this insufficient level of funding is unacceptable and hitching recovery funds to Trump’s anti-immigrant policies is unjust.

More than half of Puerto Rico remains without power. Nearly 20% of the Island does not have access to safe drinking water. Communities in Texas, Florida, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are reeling as these storms destroyed homes, public buildings and spaces, and essential utilities. Failing chemical and fossil fuel facilities further threaten families.

Trump’s hurricane recovery package leaves storm-struck communities without the resources they need. Instead, it takes those desperately needed funds to underwrite Trump's ICE program and border wall.

Rather than fulfilling his presidential duties and lifting those who have fallen, Trump wants to tear us apart.

Send a message to Congress and demand these storm-struck communities get the support they deserve.
