Tell Congress to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

The Arctic Refuge is one of America's last truly wild places -- home to polar bears, caribou, and migratory birds from around the world. But the budget currently before Congress would allow drilling in the Refuge. The Arctic is already warming at twice the rate as the rest of the country, and it could never recover from the damage caused by oil rigs.

Since September, thousands of people across the country have taken action in support of the Refuge. Your messages, calls, and rallies in support of the Refuge are turning “Yes” votes into “No” votes -- and we need to keep the pressure on. Just last week, we held rallies in DC and across the country and hand-delivered petition signatures at district offices in a dozen states.

With every hearing and vote, Congress comes closer and closer to a final budget. It’s up to activists like you to make voting for a budget that allows drilling in the Arctic Refuge a politically toxic move. We won’t stop until they remove it from the budget once and for all.

Tell Congress to reject this destructive budget proposal and protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the world’s most beautiful and unspoiled landscapes.

However, Big Oil is eager to drill in the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge -- and Trump's current 2018 budget plan includes provisions that would open the area for oil and gas drilling. I urge you to reject any proposal that includes oil revenue from the Arctic Refuge.

The Refuge is one of our nation's most important spiritual and majestic places, with caribou, muskoxen, wolves, 200 species of migratory birds, and polar bears calling it home. Its protection is also a matter of human rights and food security for Alaska Native peoples like the Gwich'in, who rely on its bounty for subsistence hunting.

Despite the Refuge’s importance to wildlife and people alike, oil companies have set their sights on drilling in this sensitive area for decades -- a threat that has intensified as they go to greater lengths to find oil. The Refuge is ground zero for climate change impacts -- over the past 40 years, Alaska has warmed twice as fast as the rest of the country. We can't risk compounding this problem by adding drilling to the equation.

Because of these immense threats, now is the time to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge once and for all. Please take action to protect the Arctic Refuge and reject this disastrous budget plan.
