Protect the Antiquities Act and our public lands

Grand Canyon National Park, created under the Antiquities Act

For eight years, President Obama used his authority under the Antiquities Act to declare or expand over 30 national monuments. His last designations included three national monuments that honor the Civil Rights Movement and two that celebrate the natural beauty of our country.

Now, the Antiquities Act is at risk. Republican leadership in Congress are mounting the most aggressive attack on public lands in our nation’s history. It's a given that they will try to undo as much of President Obama’s legacy as they can, but that's only where their intentions begin. Ultimately, some members of Congress want to end public lands protection completely.

The Antiquities Act of 1906 does more than give presidents the authority to designate national monuments. It also gives Congress the power to elevate a national monument to a national park and further protect the places that tell our cultural, historical, and natural history. Without this landmark legislation, places like Grand Canyon National Park might not exist. Together, we must make sure the Antiquities Act is not weakened.

Tell your members of Congress to protect the Antiquities Act and our public lands for generations to come.
