Maine’s spectacular wilderness is the largest expanse of contiguous northern forest east of the Mississippi River, but it is not protected from increasing development pressures.
That’s why it’s so important to create a new 150,000 acre National Park and Recreation area to permanently preserve this truly unique and special natural landscape for generations to come.
I urge you to designate this area a National Monument as a first step towards a new national park. Such a designation will preserve a historically and ecologically important landscape, and will give the local economy a much-needed boost while protecting access to traditional outdoor activities.
Thank you for your efforts to protect and strengthen our country’s conservation and wilderness legacy.
